Name black cohosh


Origin Native to North America


Scientific Name cimicifuga racemosa


Description A member of the buttercup family, (Black) describes the dark color of the root, (Cohosh) is derived from an Algonquian word for rough... also called bugbane, squawroot, rattle root and is nicknamed, black snakeroot. Used more than an century ago by native american and pioneer women. This root has anti-inflammatory and mild sedation capabilities. An excellent herb for females. It contains natural estrogen (without the cancer causing agents such as found in synthetic estrogen) is effective in relieving the swelling and soreness typical of rheumatism and arthritis, helps reduce pain associated with neuralgia, helps regulate blood pressure, relaxes smooth muscles. May be used for treating diarrhea in children when used in small doses.


Uses Antidote against poison and rattlesnake bites, regulate menstrual flow and pain relief from cramps, balance hormones, helps with PMS, a treatment for Tinnitus (ringing in the ears), for suspressing coughs, aids in increasing blood flow to the uterus and reduces the intensity of cramps and contractions during labor and after childbirth.
